Assessment of the renewable energy curriculum, training, diversity, and outreach initiatives is integral to the Center mission. Both formative and summative assessment plans are followed. Data collected through formative assessment provide the research team with immediate feedback concerning the effectiveness of educational efforts, and support continuous improvements as the projects are implemented. Summative assessment determines whether the intended goals have been reached by the conclusion of the projects. Outcomes that align with Center goals and appropriate evaluation methods for each outcome are also followed. There exists a vibrant graduate student association for those graduate students associated with the Center. This group meets every two weeks for lunch to discuss research topics and listen to external speakers. Procedures for mentoring women and minority graduate students are also routinely followed, as is a formal two-year plan to mentor postdoctoral research associates.
